The theme of the Great Patriotic War in the context of the research activities of a sectoral library: from the practice of the Belarusian Agricultural Library

Abstract
The reference to the theme of the Great Patriotic War is incorporated into the ongoing process of shaping historical memory and fostering the development of modern Belarusian society. Exploring the facts, understanding their historical significance in national history, as well as preserving gratitude for the people’s feat are typical of all social institutions in the country, including libraries of different types and departmental affiliation. The article, through the example of activity areas of a republican sectoral scientific library, highlights the role of the library and information sphere in the national process. It presents a review of scientific activities of the I.S. Lupinovich Belarusian Agricultural Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, encompassing research, editorial publishing, and scientific organizational work, in the context of commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from German Fascist occupation and the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It is shown that over the past two years the results of diverse research, search analytical, and scholarly educational activities related to the Great Patriotic War have been presented in scientific publications and conference reports, as well as in the form of an exhibition of materials and a digital information resource. In the course of editorial and publishing work, the outlined theme was embodied as the central topic of issues of the scholarly journal “Library & Information Discourse” and in the preparation of the monographic essay «“Zarya” – the partisan newspaper». Furthermore, two specialized round tables were organized, and the theme of the Great Patriotic War was incorporated into the problem field of two scientific conferences. It has been emphasized that this topic remains promising for further implementation in the scientific work of the library.
