Representation of the Central Science Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in international scientific citation systems

Abstract

The article presents the results of the analysis of the publication activity of the Central Science Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in the international scientific citation databases Web of Science, Scopus, Russian Index of Science Citation (RISC), as well as in open foreign scientific publication search services. Data on the main bibliometric indicators are presented: the number of publications, citations, and the H-index of an organization. A comparison of quantitative indicators in scientometric systems was carried out, almost identical scientific content of the organization in Web of Science and Scopus was revealed, and a dynamic growth of publications in the RISC was noticeable. The high quantitative indicators expected by the authors from open bibliographic systems are not justified; the library's publications are included in the general profile of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. It is concluded that open resources can act as an alternative to commercial systems when searching for information by authors and country, but for the analysis of the publication activity of an organization it is better to use the widely recognized ones – Scopus, Web of Science, and RISC.
